My Low Waste Summer

This all started with the chance to raise Painted Lady Butterflies. I really wanted to be able to raise more than one generation. Maybe even grow to a hobby farm.  I was surprised how many questions I had as the experiment progressed.

As I learned more about what effects the butterflies I realized I wanted to try to help them and maybe improve my environment.

It is not easy to grow plants and flowers without pesticides. There are many bugs out there that like the plants and butterfly eggs, larvae and chrysalis.

As I was reading about what can help the environment for the butterflies, I realized I could do more than a garden. That's when I asked my family if we could try a low waste summer.

Low waste means that you are trying to negatively impact your surroundings as little as possible. My family sat down and created a list of the areas of our home and life that we could "easily" begin a low waste summer. The kitchen, bathroom, general living rooms, transportation. Then we decided on a few easy to do things for each one. Like turning off the lights when you leave a room,  being aware of how much you are using the oven or microwave because both of those use a lot of power and output emissions into the air that can be harmful or hamper a butterfly. My video on the home page explains more about this.

These are just a few ideas, there are many more and I encourage you to join me for a Low Waste Summer!
